First Concentration Piece

This isn't exactly what my piece looks like since I've made a few changes since I took this picture, but it's the only picture I have of it since I left my piece at school. I'm finished with it now and think it looks pretty good for a first piece!

What is a Concentration?

Rachael - http://lhs.loswego.k12.or.us/z-mcbrides/AP/BreadthConcentration0708/Rachael/concentration/index.htm

1. I went onto the Lakeridge High School art page and went to the previous student concentrations. This is a portfolio from Rachael from 2008.

2. I think that she tried to experiment with layering and gesso techniques in her art. She drew different types of flowers and other things that you would find in nature.

3. She used a variety of mediums and layering with gesso techniques. She has a lot of color as well as line in her pieces.

4. She used a lot of line in her pieces as well as color. Also, she has good balance in a lot of her pieces.

Mike - http://lhs.loswego.k12.or.us/z-mcbrides/AP/BreadthConcentration0708/Mike/concentration/index.htm

1. I went onto the Lakeridge High School art page and went to the previous student concentrations. This is a portfolio by Mike from 2008.

2. I think this person tried to explore the different problems and disorders people can have with food and their body image.

3. His work is done through photography so there is good balance in his pictures. Also, this artist made his photographs look darker and gloomier to better express his concentration and the darkness behind food and body image disorders.

4. He has good color and lighting in his work that expresses the message he is trying to send. Also, there is a good sense of space in many of his photographs. His photographs also have good balance and proportions that emphasize his concentration.

Dani - http://lhs.loswego.k12.or.us/z-mcbrides/AP/2011/AP%20Portfolios/Dani%20A/concentration%20web/index.htm

1. I went onto the Lakeridge High School art page and went to the previous student concentrations. This is a portfolio by Dani Allen from 2010.

2. I think her concentration idea focused on either fashion or appearance. The collages focus on clothing but I think they also focus on the pressure of society and the desire for acceptance from others by being attractive and being in shape.

3. The use of collage was used as well as proportions.

4. She used a lot of color through her collage clippings. Also, the use of proportion was used throughout. There is good balance in all of her pieces.

Summer art

Here are some of my pieces from this summer since I did a drawing portfolio

These are 2 of my favorite pieces from the year!

My advice to the future AP art students is to be organized and use your class time wisely. It will benefit you to be productive in class, that way you will not have to rush your way through a project in one night. Also, try to choose a more broad topic. I feel that I did not choose the right concentration for this year and that is why I struggled. I never got in the right mindset for my concentration and was having a hard time coming up with successful pieces. Hopefully if I decide to continue on with AP art, I will be more successful and I will find what I am good at.

What is the central idea of your concentration?
My idea is to focus on skulls of both humans and animals by layering and using details.
How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referencing specific images, please indicate the image numbers

As I have progressed, I have used more layering and have payed more attention to detail. My picture with animals skulls and the mountains in the back shows a lot of detail. My most recent picture shows my use of layering.

Concentration Check Up

My concentration is skulls and bones but I've taken it toward the more serious perspective rather than trying to incorporate humor into it like I did at first. At the moment, I am stuck and am not sure what to do next. I feel like my repetition and layering of bones has been working, it's just the fact that my pieces do not look complete is frustrating. I am also trying to simplify my pieces because I've been told I try to complicate my pieces too much.

This is my piece from out last critique. From the comments I got on this, it seems like people do not think it looks complete, but they like the contrast. I'm not really sure where to go with this one because I'm not sure how to make it look more complete. Also, I'm not a big fan of the black on the left side and I want to find a way to make that look better. I think it is too bold and just isn't working.

If anyone has any suggestions for ideas on what I should do for my next piece or how I should improve this piece please let me know! Thanks!
